I’ve been waiting for this week since about winter 2022. I’d gone to a book signing with Coco Mellors in New York for her debut novel Cleopatra and Frankenstein, gobbled it right up, and have been starving for more of her silky sentences ever since. Coco’s second book will be released in France this week, and reading it is my only weekend plan (aside from finishing up next week’s newsletter—which is a juicy one).
Four other new books have also piqued my interest, mainly because they’re getting some serious attention (read: mass promotion) from the authors’ fans, friends, and followers on Instagram. Did you, too, read Bergdorf Blondes back in 2005? Author Plum Sykes is back with a new book that follows the lives of wealthy women. Looking for this year’s version of The Guest by Emma Cline? I found it, but head’s up: It can be hard to get your hands on.
I’m not linking to these books because you’d probably rather pick them up/pre-order them from your local bookshop if you’re able to do so.
Blue Sisters by Coco Mellors
Blue Sisters is a story about three sisters living in different parts of the world—London, Los Angeles, and Paris—who reunite in New York following the death of their fourth sister. Together they deal with their loss, revisit the secrets they've kept from one another, and prove there’s no bond quite like the one sisters share.
Wives Like Us by Plum Sykes
By former Vogue editor Plum Sykes (you may recognize her from this meme), this “impossibly funny” story follows members of England’s high society (as well as an American divorcée, a bereaved butler, and two miniature dachshunds) as they navigate through a difficult time in the Cotswolds—think: A diamond theft, a runaway wife, and a closet too small to hold a collection of Gucci loafers.
The Midnight Feast by Lucy Foley
Called “Agatha Christie for the Instagram age" by the Guardian, Lucy Foley’s latest mystery novel is about the opening weekend of a place called The Manor. The morning after its first night open, the police arrive to find a fire, guests acting oddly, and a dead body.
A Year on Earth with Mr. Hell by Young Kim
I learned about this book in
, where writer Emily Sundberg calls it “a forensic unpacking of a sexual affair in New York,” and warns it’s hard to get your hands on. Author Young Kim tells the story of her ten-month relationship with punk rock singer and writer Richard Hell and shares her grief over the death of her partner, Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren.Once Upon a Time: The Captivating Life of Carolyn Bessette by Elizabeth Beller
The reason so many of us idolize Carolyn Bessette is that she’s the opposite of every single woman today—we know pretty much nothing about her. She never gave interviews and died young. But now we’re getting a closer look into her life with this biography that includes interviews with her close friends and family members.
Are you excited about any other releases this year? Tell me in the comments!
Until next Sunday,
Renée
Ooh these look so good, I really want to read the Plum Sykes
I just finished The Paris Novel by Ruth Reichl and highly recommend for you! xo
